Himalayan Blackberry is one of the two kinds of blackberry on campus. It’s invasive and identifiable by its thick spiky vines and leaves which come in groups of five. The other kind on campus is the native blackberry, which has thinner leaves that grow in groups of three.  On September 22nd, the Strawberry Creek Restoration Program team and volunteers removed almost all of the invasive Himalayan blackberry from a hillside on the edge of the Eucalyptus Grove by the West Circle.  The removal of Himalayan blackberry opens up the area to California native planting, perhaps including the native blackberry.
